Louis van Gaal: Anthony Martial isn’t a striker

Louis van Gaal does not believe that Anthony Martial’s best position is up top despite his goalscoring heroics in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday.

Martial scored a last-gasp winner in the dying moments at Wembley to seal Man United’s progression to the Cup final.

The Frenchman has scored 14 goals in all competitions this term but van Gaal still sees him as a winger rather than a striker:

Martial’s goal return has been even more remarkable given the fact he has played on the left wing for the majority of the campaign.

It seems as if his qualities are more suited to a role up top but, for now, van Gaal will be keeping him on the flanks.

In any case, Marcus Rashford is enjoying a superb run up top for United and the duo have established a good relationship in recent weeks.
