Arsenal legend Ian Wright has warned Marcus Rashford not to be distracted by money as he continues his remarkable rise to prominence at Manchester United.
Rashford has burst onto the scene at Old Trafford in recent weeks, scoring seven goals since his debut for the club in February.
The 18-year-old currently earns around £1,500-a-week at Man United but the club are reportedly set to offer him improved terms worth £15,000-a-week. Wright believes money is the only thing that can derail Rashford’s career.
“He can sniff one out. He makes great runs to the near post. He can get it on the edge of the box,” Wright said.
“When you play at a club like Manchester United, you’ll always have chances made. He could go on to score loads of goals for Manchester United. The only thing that is going to derail him is the money.”
There is certainly an argument that better money could lead a young player to think that he has ‘made it’.
However, Rashford seems to have a sensible head on his shoulders and he will no doubt be aware that he has to give 100% in everything he does if he is to become a long-term success at United.
