Victor Valdes has Standard Liege loan terminated

Victor Valdes has had his loan spell at Standard Liege terminated early and has returned to Manchester United.

Valdes joined Liege in January and helped them to win the Belgian Cup with eight appearances since then but he’ll now come back to Manchester.

Liege said the decision behind cancelling Valdes’ loan was because they wanted to give more game time to youngsters.

An official statement from Liege read: “As we decided to give more playtime to the youth players at the end of the season and because they couldn’t be selected for medical reasons, the Spanish goalkeeper and the Greek midfielder have decided in agreement with the club to finish their loan at the end of this week.

“Standard de Liège wants to thank Ioannis and Victor for everything they did for our club, especially during the succesful [sic] campaign on the way to the Belgian Cup. We also wish them the best in the rest of their professional career.”

Valdes is currently out with an injury which probably played a significant role in the decision to send him back but I’m not really sure what he’s supposed to do back at United?

His relationship with Louis van Gaal is beyond repair, he doesn’t have a locker in the first-team dressing room and he isn’t welcome at first-team training sessions either.

After a short period in Belgian, it looks like Valdes will have to return to train with our academy youngsters, either that or simply leave United as well.
