Rooney: Rashford is going right way about convincing Hodgson

Wayne Rooney believes Marcus Rashford is doing exactly what is required of him to convince Roy Hodgson to bring him to the Euros in France next month.

The 18-year-old has burst onto the scene in recent months and was drafted into Hodgson’s 26-man provisional squad ahead of Euro 2016 this summer.

Hodgson still has to drop three players from the squad but Rooney believes that Rashford could very well earn his seat on the plane.

Speaking about Rashford, Rooney said: “He’s a young lad but you’ve seen again today his goal, a fantastic goal, and he’s got to work hard over the next couple of weeks to convince Roy to take him and I’m sure if he does well we’ll have no problems putting him in the 23.”

Rashford has scored five goals in 12 games this season and has also chipped in with two assists. Despite his age, and maybe because of it, Rashford has been fearless in spearheading United’s attack ever since his arrival on the scene with two goals against Arsenal back in February.

He won United all three points that day and did the same again just three games later when he landed the winner against Manchester City at the Etihad.

Rashford has his work cut out for him with Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge all possibly ahead of him in the pecking order but a good performance in the FA Cup final and Rashford might well be given a chance if Hodgson is feeling adventurous.
