Incoming Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is hesitate about signing Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez despite the club and player being keen for a deal to go through, according to The Times.
Mourinho is widely expected to be named as the new manager of Man United this week following Louis van Gaal’s departure on Monday.
The Portuguese will be given full authority over transfers at Old Trafford but he believes that Rodriguez is not robust enough to compete in the Premier League. There are also concerns over his workrate.
Rodriguez has grown frustrated with a lack of opportunities at Madrid under Rafael Benitez and Zinedine Zidane and he has told United that he would consider a move despite the fact they have not qualified for the Champions League.
United are keen to secure a deal as they would like to prove that they can still attract top players but Mourinho looks like he will veto a transfer.
Mourinho is known as a demanding manager who expects that every player in his side contributes to the team, regardless of talent. If he isn’t keen on Rodriguez, it will be interesting to see who else Mourinho has lined up.
