Jose Mourinho has made Karim Benzema his priority transfer target ahead of his imminent move to Manchester United, according to The Independent.
Mourinho is widely expected to be named as Man United’s new manager this week following the sacking of Louis van Gaal, who was relieved of his duties on Monday.
The Portuguese is already said to be working on transfers and Benzema reportedly tops the list of targets.
Mourinho and Benzema worked together for three years at Real Madrid, with the striker scoring 79 goals in 150 appearances during the period.
But Benzema is currently negotiating a new contract at Madrid and the player is in the midst of a blackmail case allegedly involving Lyon’s Mathieu Valbuena. Benzema denies the charge of conspiracy to blackmail.
Mourinho is also said to be looking at the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Everton’s John Stones and Sporting Lisbon’s Joao Mario.
There is certainly a pull for players when it comes to the possibility of working with Mourinho and United will hope that his influence proves to be the clincher in terms of securing a deal. It should be an interesting summer when it comes to incomings and outgoings at Old Trafford.
