Manchester United have a genuine interest in Juventus’ Paul Pogba but Real Madrid are the favourites to secure his signature, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has met with Madrid representatives in the past few days to conduct initial talks over a move.
Meanwhile, Man United have made “small steps” over a deal, although they are yet to contact either Pogba or Juventus. In any case, Pogba would be happy to stay in Turin if nothing materialised.
Pogba left United in acrimonious circumstances in 2012 following a disagreement with Sir Alex Ferguson over improved terms on a potential new deal.
The Frenchman has since gone on to develop into one of the most accomplished midfielders in the world and his departure has to go down as one of Ferguson’s biggest ever mistakes.
But anything can happen in football and supporters will be hopeful that new boss Jose Mourinho can convince Pogba to re-sign with United. That being said, United are firmly in transition while Madrid are European champions.
