Manchester United have opened talks with Breel Embolo’s agent over a move to Old Trafford and have left negotiations in the hands of Jorge Mendes, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in Europe as he plays a vital role in Switzerland’s Euro 2016 squad and has also attracted interest from the likes of Tottenham, Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig.
Di Marzio report Leipzig are limited by a self-imposed salary cap of around £2.3m-per-year while Man United are reportedly willing to potentially double that offer.
Mourinho is looking to strengthen United’s attacking force and a deal for Zlatan Ibrahimovic is said to also be in the works.
Mendes has been a very important figure at Old Trafford over recent years, he has introduced a number of stars to United and played a vital role in persuading David De Gea to sign a new deal with the club last summer.
He is also Mourinho’s representative and a deal for the youngster could be on the cards if his mother agrees with the terms.
Basel’s sporting director Georg Heitz has admitted the club will find it hard to keep hold of their prospect.
Heitz told Goal: “It’s very probable that he’ll leave this summer. He’s played for three seasons in our first team and he’s just 19-year-old.”
United were in the same situation with Renato Sanches and many supporters thought because of Mendes’ strong links with Mourinho we’d see the youngster at Old Trafford but instead he joined Bayern Munich, so we’ll have to see how this one plays out.
