Paul Pogba suspended for Manchester United’s Bournemouth fixture

Paul Pogba has been suspended for Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth at Dean Court on August 14.

The FA have confirmed that the one-game ban is a consequence of Pogba picking up two yellow cards in last season’s Coppa Italia including one in the final against Milan.

This means Pogba will not make his debut this weekend and will have to wait until Southampton at home the following Friday for his first opportunity.

Here are the yellow cards which Pogba picked up for Juventus; one in the semi-final win over Roma and one in the final against Milan, which has resulted in this one game suspension.

Well, that’s put a bit of a dampener on the weekend? Only slightly because Pogba was unlikely to start anyway but I didn’t even realise that suspensions carried over between different football associations.

It’s very strange to see that suspensions are brought over with a player when he moves to a new country and league. We’ll just have to settle with Ibrahimovic, Bailly and Mkhitaryan making their league debuts. I’m sure we’ll survive.
