Only Zlatan could announce himself to the Premier League in such emphatic fashion. A Premier League debut – regardless of how much you’ve achieved before – is always a baptism of fire due to English football’s uniquely rapid pace. But the 34-year-old duly delivered in characteristically emphatic fashion, receiving the ball from Antony Martial before looking up and launching an inch perfect strike into the bottom left hand corner.
It was at this moment, as United raced into a 3-0 lead, that the world suddenly saw the merciless United of yesteryear: big players, big egos, and big performances producing big results, dismantling lesser sides with minimal effort. On the opening weekend of the season, Zlatan has stamped his authority on English football. And in turn United have sent out a powerful message to their challengers.
