Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans has denied rumours that he received a call from Jose Mourinho about a potential move to Manchester United.
Tielemans was handed his debut at the age of 16 back in 2013 and has gone on to make 103 appearances for the Belgian side, scoring 13 goals.
It was claimed by fellow Anderlecht academy graduate Lukasz Plonowski, now of Wisla Pulawy, that Mourinho contacted the midfielder with regards to a Premier League move.
Tielemans, however, denied having any past contact with the 53-year-old.
“Whoever maintains the opposite is lying,” he said.
“I have deep respect for Mr Mourinho and for numerous other managers but he has never contacted me yet. I’m concentrating on my career and the important match tomorrow night.”
Making over 100 senior appearances by the age of 19 is a huge testament to how much raw talent Tielemans. As Belgium continues to export young talent to all corners of Europe, the youngster could very well be a leading figure in the rise of another ‘golden’ generation.
But with a rich array of midfield options now at Mourinho’s disposal, bringing Tielemans to Old Trafford ahead of the 2016/17 campaign would make little sense. That said, his immense talent is something Mourinho and his staff should keep an eye on in the coming years.
