You can debate why David de Gea did not feature in the XI after his spectacular saves, but there is no doubting the inclusion of Valencia and Herrera.
Both players featured for a full 90 minutes against Liverpool at Anfield on Monday and while the Ecuadorian put in a rather gritty showing, Herrera’s performance was pure masterclass.
Here’s a look at the team.

The Spaniard’s Man of the Match performance got him a rating of 9.69/10, making him the second best player in this week’s Team of the Week. He dominated the midfield, dictating the tempo of the game, and allowed Liverpool little room to work with on their attacks.
Although United looked shaky towards the end of game, Valencia’s resolute defending undoubtedly helped United keep a clean sheet. Having played as a winger for most of his career, moving forward has never been a problem for the Ecuadorian. But his defensive awareness and tackling have improved in leaps and bounds as was evident when he slid in to take the ball away from Roberto Firmino to prevent a clear goalscoring chance.
Despite a 0-0 draw, United won’t be too disappointed with the result, and will be sure to take positives from the game ahead of their blockbuster clash with Chelsea next week.
