Manchester United target James Rodriguez has revealed that he would consider his future options over the next few days.
Rodriguez has been subject to interest from Man United for a number of years, with Jose Mourinho reportedly enquiring over the Real Madrid midfielder in recent months.
The 25-year-old, who has only managed seven starts this season, revealed earlier this season that, should he choose to leave Madrid, Old Trafford would be his preferred next destination.
Rodriguez, speaking after Madrid’s World Club Cup final win over Kashima Antlers, made it clear that he would be open to offers from other clubs during the January transfer window.
“Things are not going as I would want,” James said. “But I have had offers and I have these seven days to think well about everything.”
“I want to stay, but you must think about everything. I cannot assure you what will happen, as I want to play more.”
At the age of 25, Rodriguez is at the peak of his powers. The Columbian erupted onto the scene following a sensational World Cup campaign in 2014, earning a move to the Bernabeu as a result. And despite failing to exercise the same world-stopping influence seen in Brazil, his technical prowess and overall intelligence has blossomed further.
Languishing on the bench at Madrid, therefore, feels like an improper use of the midfielder’s time. Placed in the No.10 role at Old Trafford, Rodriguez would thrive alongside the creative zeal of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the sheer physical brilliance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He could become the centre-piece, thriving at the heart of a truly promising front four under the Special One’s tutelage.
