Axel Tuanzebe has been pictured training with the Manchester United first team ahead of their Boxing Day game with Sunderland in the Premier League.
The 19-year-old, despite playing for just ten minutes, was singled out for praise by Jose Mourinho following Man United’s pre-season 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic.
He was then handed a place in Mourinho’s 25-man pre-season tour squad, but hasn’t forced his way into the match-day squad so far in this campaign.
However, the youngster was seen working hard at Carrington earlier today.
Louis van Gaal handed 14 academy products their debuts during his time at United, and those that have seen Tuanzebe in action will know that the youngster was desperately unfortunate to miss out.
He is, in many ways, your quintessential no-nonsense, puts-his-head-where-most-won’t-put-their-foot defender: physically imposing, superb in the air, devastatingly quick and, above all, barbaric in his approach – the type of defender to sprint through a series of brick walls and be angry when there isn’t anything left to smash.
Another notable aspect of Tuanzebe’s game is his aptitude for leadership. He has captained players well above his own age in various youth set-ups, leading the back-line with an air of militancy. He even admitted to enjoying bossing people around.
Make no mistake: Tuanzebe is one to watch.
