Henrikh Mkhitaryan has heaped praise on Zlatan Ibrahimovic following Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Sunderland in the Premier League.
The Swede netted his 17th Man United goal in the 82 minute, expertly lifting the ball over Jordan Pickford after being played through by Paul Pogba.
He also grabbed two assists, laying off the ball for Daley Blind to score United’s opener before teeing up Mkhitaryan’s superb scorpion kick in the 86th minute.
The Armenian, speaking after the game, was quick to laud the 35-year-old for another powerful display at No.9.
“His performance doesn’t show how old he is,” he said.
“He’s doing some incredible stuff and I’m very happy for him because he deserves it. He’s a very big player and everyone knows him. I don’t have to say it because everyone knows he’s a fantastic player.
“I hope he will do his best for the next game as well.”
Last season, Anthony Martial earned the title of top scorer with 17 goals. This time around, with Mourinho at the helm and Zlatan bullishly leading the line, that total has already been matched before the turn of the year.
The Swede’s presence at the masthead of United’s attack provides more than just a glut of goals. There is now a sense of identity about this Mourinho side, personified in distilled form by Zlatan’s aggression, power and sheer dedication to the cause, and United fans will hope to see such an attitude continue to permeate the rest of the side.
