Henrikh Mkhitaryan insists he used to watch Eric Cantona in action as a youngster and looks up to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
He has quickly become a fan favourite at Old Trafford following his impressive displays since being re-introduced to the starting XI.
The Armenian has established himself as an indispensable member of the squad, and his influence on the squad is only set to increase moving forward.
Speaking about his idols from his childhood, he included Cantona for his impact at Old Trafford.
“I started watching United at the time when Eric Cantona was in the team, and I loved watching him play. Andrei Kanchelskis was another who I’d keep an eye out for – as he was a Russian player I found that very interesting,” he said.
“But, in terms of a United idol, that would have to be Sir Alex Ferguson.”
His latest showing came against Sunderland on Boxing Day, where he left fans speechless with his scorpion kick in the 3-1 win against David Moyes’ men.
It’s no surprise that he looked up to Cantona, the Frenchman had a massive impact at the club, one no ordinary player could replicate and it’s why he’s still never been forgotten.
Hopes are Mkhitaryan can keep up his impressive start at Old Trafford, because if he continues as he’s started, then United fans are in for a treat.
