Paul Pogba has reacted to Manchester United’s important 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in the Premier League.
Grant Leadbitter gave Middlesbrough a shock lead in the 67th minute, only for Anthony Martial to level things up with five minutes left, setting up a grandstand finish.
The Frenchman then decided the encounter for the home side with a superb header in the 86th minute, extending Man United’s winning run to six games.
Pogba, speaking after the game, expressed his delight with what was a crucial result for Mourinho’s men.
“It’s beautiful – it’s why we love football,” Pogba said.
“The win was very important. We had a lot of chances and we could have won the game easier, but we are very happy with the three points.”
Old Trafford has been deprived of true romance over the past few years. That lasting image of United, a winning machine, pouring forward in front of the Stretford End and battering their opponent into painful submission has slowly faded during the post-Fergie era.
But on the Gaffer’s birthday, Mourinho’s side treated the watching world to a vintage United display, with Pogba – the side’s new heartbeat and driving force – at the centre of everything. It was a truly wonderful sight, and supporters will hope to see more of the same in the coming months.
