Manchester United fans were furious with Jesse Lingard‘s disappointing performance against West Ham on Monday evening.
The Englishman had a brilliant opportunity to open the scoring as Antonio Valencia‘s shot was stopped in the first-half, but he managed to miss an open net and hit the post.
He was subbed off in the second-half for Marcus Rashford, who made a brilliant play out wide to set up Juan Mata for the opening goal of the game and continued to provide a brilliant attacking threat.
Here’s what fans on social media had to say about Lingard’s performance.
Seems because Lingard’s an academy graduate fans should go easy on him. He scored a great goal in the FA Cup Final, but he’s not a starter.

If I was Lingard's team mate, I'd lock him in the toilet at half time.

I think Lingard is good but I also think he's one of the worst finishers I have ever seen in my life.

Lingard has been very poor.

Lingard has often been unfairly criticised by supporters, even when he has performed well, but his display against West Ham was absolutely shocking.
Not only did he miss an open net, Lingard struggled to move the ball forward and infuriated supporters with his inability to linkup play.
Moving forward he’ll be hoping to improve his disappointing form as Mourinho didn’t seem impressed with his static play at half-time and wasted no time in taking him off the pitch.
