Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera insists the club were able to get the best out of Henrikh Mkhitaryan by being very patient with him.
He arrived at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, but was left out of the squad for several games by Jose Mourinho as he failed to deal with the intensity of life in the Premier League.
Mkhitaryan has since returned in spectacular fashion as one of our best performers, putting in superb displays and cementing his place in the side under Mourinho.
Speaking about the supporter’s treatment of Mkhitaryan, Herrera claims it’s one of the many things he likes about the club.
“The fans and the club and the staff have been patient with him, that’s what I like with this club,” he said.
“They knew how good he is but football is not always the case that in your first second you will perform at your best. You have to settle down in one place, adapt yourself to a new life and club, to a new role.
“Now we are seeing the best Mkhitaryan. Or almost the best, because I think he can be even better.”
He’s highly versatile, with the ability to play as a winger or an attacking midfielder and his presence in the side injects a big attacking threat into the squad.
Mourinho was criticised for his treatment of Mkhitaryan when he first arrived at the club, but it seems his plan has worked out.
Hopes are he can maintain his form moving forward as he provides a unique skill set that not many other players in the team have to offer.
