Axel Tuanzebe has been pictured training with the Manchester United first team ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third round clash with Reading.
The 19-year-old was named on the bench for Man United’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace last season but never managed to make a senior appearance.
His cameo against Wigan Athletic during pre-season attracted praise from Jose Mourinho, who later handed the teenager a place in his 25-man tour squad.
Tuanzebe has occasionally trained with the first team this season and was once again seen working hard at Carrington on Thursday morning.
Man United have played eight games in less than four weeks, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo receiving barely any time off. Mourinho may be tempted to hand the pair a chance to recuperate ahead of the game with Liverpool on January 15. And with Eric Bailly also absent, this could be Tuanzebe’s chance to finally feature in the first team.
Anybody who has watched the 19-year-old feature for various youth sides will know that his power, size, vision and ability on the ball comfortably dwarfs any other defender waiting in the ranks, and United fans will be desperate to see how he fares in the first team.
