David Beckham posted a brilliant tribute to Wayne Rooney after he became Manchester United’s all-time record goalscorer on Saturday afternoon.
The Englishman came off the bench against Stoke City, and became Man United’s record goalscorer with a wonderful free-kick in the 94th minute as Man United trailed by one goal.
Seconds remained at the bet365 Stadium and as United turned to Rooney one more time to produce a moment of magic, he rescued the side by producing the goods, helping Jose Mourinho claim one point from the clash.
Here’s a look at what Beckham had to say on social media.
40 years Sir Bobby has had the goal scoring record at Manchester United that proves how difficult it was to beat… Today Wayne beat that record and Sir Bobby has been sat in the stand every game to be there when this happened… What a gentleman , player , and true United legend … Well done Sir Bobby & congratulations to Wayne 🔴⚪️⚫️ @manchesterunited @england
He arrived at Old Trafford as an exciting 18-year-old from Everton, and no one could predict what his future would hold as he racked up five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four Community Shields and one Champions League triumph.
Rooney has come under heavy criticism in recent times, losing his automatic starter status for club and country, but there’s no doubting his status as a legend at the club.
There are doubts over whether he’ll be able to continue in the Premier League, especially considering how long he’s been performing at the top level but Rooney has proven he still has it in the locker.
