Wayne Rooney ill for Manchester United’s clash against Leicester City

Wayne Rooney was dropped for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Leicester City through illness.

The club’s official Twitter account confirmed he would be absent from Jose Mourinho’s side just moments before the game at the King Power Stadium.

He became Man United’s all-time record scorer last month when he found his 250th goal, but was unavailable for selection despite playing as a half-time substitute in Wednesday’s 0-0 home draw with Hull City.

There are doubts over whether he’d even start if he was available with Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic starting in attack, however, hopes are his illness is nothing serious.

He’s been heavily linked with a move to China in recent months, especially as their transfer window ends at the end of the month.

The Englishman lost his status as a automatic starter for both club and country and it remains to be seen if he will commit to his future at Old Trafford.

United need to keep up their showings if they stand a chance of closing the gap on the top four as they sit just one point behind Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on the Premier League table.
