Manchester United host Saint-Etienne at Old Trafford tonight as the Europa League knockouts get underway.
Jose Mourinho’s side have four consecutive games away from the Premier League in three separate competitions and getting started with a win over Saint-Etienne at home is crucial if we don’t want a tricky away trip in France next week.
United could afford to lose and go through with a win away from home in Europe but our record away in Europe has been atrocious since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. The last thing we need ahead of the League Cup final is a trip to France needing a win as Mourinho won’t be able to even consider resting any players.
But concentrating on the St. Etienne game there are plenty of questions to ask. Who will play? Who will score? Place some bets on your sports betting apps and I’d say Anthony Martial to score first tonight would be a good move given he’s now back into form following a man of the match display against Watford.
United are in superb form having only lost one game in their last 22 matches. Ever since that 4-0 thrashing away to Chelsea, Mourinho has tightened the ship at United and one player who looks to be coming into a bit of form is Martial which United fans are delighted about.
Martial was outstanding in his debut season under Louis van Gaal but has struggled in his second season as Mourinho wanted more from him. However, that performance against Watford has filled fans with hope that he is now going to kick start his season from this point onwards because the thought of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Martial in full flow on both wings is mouthwatering.
