Manchester United fans were pleased with Ander Herrera‘s performance during their side’s 3-0 win over Saint Etienne in the Europa League last 32.
The Spaniard found himself in the middle of a furious midfield battle during the early stages and ultimately came out on top as Jose Mourinho’s men entered cruise control as the game went on.
Man United fans were quick to express their delight at what was another tenacious, workmanlike performance from Herrera.
Like so many games this season, Ander Herrera is completely dominating the midfield battle. A calm and collected player. Future captain.

Herrera is so good, how people still call him shit is beyond me. They clearly don't watch him or understand the role he plays.

For the first time in a while, Herrera found himself struggling in a midfield battle. Not that it was entirely his fault: Marouane Fellaini‘s inbuilt lack of energy in midfield, coupled with Paul Pogba looking to roam forward, meant that the 27-year-old had to deal with the lively midfield pair of Vincent Pajot and Jordan Veretout on his own. And for a good 20 minutes Herrera looked second best.
But he refused to lie down. The Spaniard quickly stamped his authority after half-time, pinching the ball in key areas and surging forward, always running, looking for any hint of danger, any iota of trouble or opportunity.
By the end, Herrera – alongside the effervescent Pogba – was toying with the French side, and supporters will hope that Mourinho’s doesn’t miss him too much in the second leg.
