Paul Scholes claims Manchester United need to sign just two or three more players in the summer transfer window to return to the top of the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho has already conducted brilliant business at Old Trafford with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly all enjoying brilliant starts to their time in England.
Although performances have also improved, Man United face a tough fight for a Champions League qualification ahead of next term as they sit four points behind second-place Manchester City.
Speaking about the team, Scholes insists Mourinho must strengthen the squad in the summer so United can challenge for silverware.
“They’re only a couple of players away. I would bring in a controlling midfield player,” he said.
“A centre forward to help Ibrahimovic. (Antoine) Griezmann — or (Sergio) Aguero wouldn’t be bad!
“We’ll have to see defensively when they play Tottenham, City, Chelsea and Arsenal. That will determine whether he needs a centre half. Right back, left back not a problem. Goalkeeper not a problem, unless Real Madrid want him [De Gea].”
United have started to click under Mourinho following a shaky start and as Scholes claims, there are only one or two weaknesses in the team.
Mourinho has already showcased from his first window at the club that he’s more than capable of plugging holes in the team, and there’s no doubt he’ll have the same interest in the summer.
