Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman this summer, according to reports.
Man United were said to be close to signing him twice in the past, but could finally acquire in his services in the summer transfer window.
Reports in holland claim executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has held lengthy negotiations with his representatives over a £35million move to Old Trafford.
They claim that he’s seen as an ideal replacement for Michael Carrick at Old Trafford as the 35-year-old enters the latter stages of his career.
He’s been held back with injuries over the last few years, but has fought his way back as a key memer of the Roma squad, making 25 Serie A appearances this season and helping his side to second in the league.
Even if Carrick decides to sign a new one-year deal with the club after being awarded a testimonial, there are doubts over if he’ll be able to perform at the same level, which is why Mourinho has prioritised signing a replacement.
A deal would still depend on the fitness of Strootman as there are fears over his long-term knee problem which have hindered his progress in his past.
