Di Marzio: Ibrahimovic out for 8-9 months with double ligament tear

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury could well be worse than originally feared following reports from Gianluca di Marzio that the Swedish striker may have suffered a double ligament tear.

Di Marzio reports that Ibrahimovic tore both his anterior and posterior ligaments and could be sidelined for up to 8-9 months, which is potentially career threatening for a player who is 35-years-old.

Initial expectations from Jose Mourinho were not positive but few would have expected such a serious injury for Ibrahimovic. It’s a cruel blow to a player who had lived up to his reputation in terms of his goalscoring exploits with 28 goals this season at Man United.

Ibrahimovic has managed to avoid serious injury throughout the majority of his career but this has the potential to finish one of modern football’s most prolific goalscorer’s career in the most horrible way.

We are awaiting any official confirmation from either United or Ibrahimovic himself but the prognosis is not good at best for Zlatan and at worst could end his career earlier than anybody expected.
