Manchester United are interested in re-signing Burnley defender Michael Keane this summer, according to BBC.
He was sold to Burnley in 2015 for £2m by Louis van Gaal but following his impressive performances, he’s expected to be sold for up to £25m.
Keane, who is shortlisted for the Professional Footballers’ Association young player of the year award, could return to Old Trafford as he’d allow United to activate a 25% sell-on clause from his initial transfer.
It could be the second summer in succession that United would re-sign a former academy player following Paul Pogba’s world-record £89m return in 2016.
Mourinho has continuously stated that he’ll be looking to bolster his defensive options, and with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones not performing well at Old Trafford, a move for Keane seems more likely.
He only made five senior appearances for United and after joining Burnley following loan spells at Leicester, Derby and Blackburn, it’s been a massive step up in his development as a player.
United will unquestionably be looking for a new defender this summer and they’ll continue to be linked with players like Keane once the summer transfer window starts.
