Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has explained why he rejected Manchester United last year, claiming he was convinced by the Spanish club’s trust in him.
He has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford again this summer and opened up about why he previously rejected a potential deal.
Jose Mourinho has been interested in his services since he took over at Man United and Varane claims those who believed he would fail at the Santiago Bernabeu, motivated him to push himself harder and make a success of himself.
Speaking about his future, Varane has spoken out a potential transfer.
“I preferred to discuss with the leaders and the coach to know if they had confidence in me,” he said.
“They did, so I got my head down.
“That’s what some people thought and it motivated me.
“When you don’t believe in me, I don’t say anything but it titillates me. It takes a great strength of character to arrive at Real at eighteen years and make a journey like I have so far.”
Varane would be incredible at United and with Mourinho on the lookout for a new defender this summer following the club’s injury crisis, and he could be the perfect central partner to go alongside Eric Bailly.
