Memphis Depay has demonstrated his love for Manchester United despite leaving in gloomy circumstances in January by posting a photo of himself with a necklace brandishing the club’s badge on Instagram.
The Dutchman was brought to Old Trafford by Louis van Gaal for a fee of £25m back in 2015 and, in spite of the occasional moment of brilliance, dramatically failed to impress and was not even handed a place in the squad for the FA Cup final.
He likewise failed to impress Jose Mourinho last season and departed for Lyon in January after failing to make a single Premier League start.
But the 23-year-old, in spite of what was a tumultuous 18 months, has demonstrated that he still hold the club close to his heart with this post on social media.
No, I don’t know what the caption means. Not even the slightest clue. In fact, most of this guy’s social media makes little sense, but that’s not the point.
You’d think that, following a year and a half spell hallmarked by a maximum of three good performances in a red shirt, the winger would just want to forget the whole thing entirely.
Instead, Memphis clearly recognises the magnitude of the club, and will, in spite of what was on the face of it an unsuccessful time, still hold fond memories of his time at Old Trafford.
