Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos breaks silence on rumours linking him with Manchester United

Paris Saint Germain defender Marquinhos has ruled out a move to Manchester United this summer, insisting he is happy under Unai Emery.

Reports in Brazil have claimed that Man United had launched a bid worth €70m for the 23-year-old, who has been on the club’s radar for some time.

Barcelona are also among those interested in securing the Brazilian’s services following a third successive season as first choice centre back at the Parc de Princes.

But the defender, when asked about the rumours, made it clear that he was happy playing in Ligue 1 at this given time.

“I have a contract until 2019 and we are in talks to extend it.

“The new sporting director, who has been appointed, will hold further talks but I am calm and I have expressed my desire to stay at PSG as I’m happy here.

“This is also why there have been very little rumours about my future this summer. It’s good too as I can calmly enjoy my holidays as I know my future is in good hands of PSG, my agent and my family.

“We’ll take the best decision.”

Jose Mourinho had the second best defence in the Premier League last season and further improvements have been made through the arrival of Benfica’s Victor Lindelof, along with the apparently imminent departure of Chris Smalling, who recently hired an agency to find him a new club.

Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Lindelof and Phil Jones, with Daley Blind and Axel Tuanzebe as cover, make up a compact, diverse defensive arsenal; any further reinforcements, at least in Mourinho’s book, are unnecessary.
