Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea paves the way for Nemanja Matic to Manchester United: report

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic for some time now and The Times is reporting that Antonio Conte is now prepared to sell Matic in order to help push through his pursuit of AS Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new defensive midfielder this summer and all three of Matic, Bakayoko and his AS Monaco teammate Fabinho have all been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but reports this week suggest Fabinho is the one who Man United have agreed a fee for already.

However, Matt Hughes of The Times is now reporting that Conte is ready to sell Matic both in order to help speed up the signing of Bakayoko and in order to convince Cesc Fabregas to stay. Is there a chance Mourinho could make his first signing from his former club Chelsea in Matic?

I mean, Matic was indomitable during Chelsea’s Premier League winning campaign when he first returned to the club who sold him in order to sign David Luiz from SL Benfica. He wasn’t as impressive last year under Conte but is still a powerhouse midfielder, somebody who could no doubt improve United’s options in midfield.

But there is a raging debate among United fans at the moment over who would be the better option – Matic or Fabinho. Our opinion is irrelevant as Mourinho will choose who he wants this summer but I do prefer Fabinho, so I hope that is pushed through. That being said, if Matt Hughes is correct then Chelsea are going to be happy to part way with Premier League proven Matic and that may very well tempt Mourinho.
