Tiemoue Bakyoko in London for Chelsea medical as Nemanja Matic move nears closer

Tiemoue Bakayoko has arrived in London to complete his medical ahead of a move to Chelsea, according to various reports.

This has strong relevance for Manchester United fans because Bakayoko’s imminent move to Chelsea is expected to be the point at which Nemanja Matic’s transfer to Man United is accelerated. As soon as Bakayoko is officially announced, Matic will be free to move to United as has been reported this week.

Of course, Bakayoko, 22, was heavily linked with United since the start of the summer but our pursuit of him never really got off the ground and instead we’ve been pushing forward with a move for his AS Monaco teammate Fabinho which is still ongoing at the moment with discussions between the two clubs.

Chelsea are expected to sign Bakayoko for a fee less than the £40m touted for United to sign Matic which is excellent business on their front and for United, Matic will be the first ex-Chelsea player Jose Mourinho has brought to the club.

Mourinho was the manager who brought Matic back to England from SL Benfica in 2014 and if he is willing to sign him twice then that is a real indicator of just how much trust and belief he has in Matic as a player. That’s something which is so crucial to Mourinho – he needs to trust his players, more so than most managers because of his style, and that’s something Matic will clearly bring in abundance.

The jury is out over whether Matic will be a good signing for United but with Bakayoko now closing in on his move to Chelsea, the Matic deal is expected to accelerate fast over the next 48 hours.
