Manchester United have an agreed a £35m fee for AS Monaco midfielder and Chelsea target Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho dealt a significant blow to Antonio Conte last week by completing the signing the Italian’s main transfer target Romelu Lukaku for £75m.
The move ruled out any prospect of Nemanja Matic moving to Old Trafford, which was set to happen once Bakayoko arrived at Stamford Bridge.
However, according to the Daily Star‘s George Scott, the Portuguese has landed yet another hammer blow on his former club by agreeing a £35m deal with Monaco over the French midfielder.
Mourinho, reacting to taunts from Chelsea supporters back in March, reminded them that ‘Judas’ was still number one, and it seems as if he is determined to keep it that way.
The Portuguese generally speaks fondly of his former club, and I’m sure that, when separated from the influence of crowd mentality, the feeling is mutual with most supporters.
But they will know better than most that, above anything, Mourinho is an obsessive winner who will stop at nothing to reassert himself at the very pinnacle of English football. And if that means tearing apart the club he once made relevant limb by limb through shrewd transfer business, so be it.
