Sources close to Tiemoue Bakayoko have confirmed that, contrary to reports, Manchester United have not made a bid for the Frenchman this summer.
Reports have emerged suggesting that Man United could swoop in with a bid for the 22-year-old in light of Monaco’s frustration at Chelsea’s proposed payment schedule and refusal to up their figure to £40m.
Bakayoko had been interested in switching Monaco for Manchester if Jose Mourinho secured Champions League football for United next season.
But despite the Portuguese satisfying such criteria, M.E.N‘s Ciaran Kelly has confirmed that Bakayoko remains set on a move to Chelsea.
The consensus surrounding Bakayoko points towards the deal with Chelsea being more or less done, with an official announcement set to arrive once the 22-year-old returns from holiday.
Murmurs of Mourinho once again stepping on Antonio Conte’s cake by launching a bid of his own could have been engineered in order to speed up the deal and force Chelsea into satisfying Monaco’s demands – a regularly employed tactic during any transfer window.
Three big midfield targets in Nemanja Matic, Fabinho and Bakayoko appear to be off the table for Mourinho as he continues to find a defensive midfielder to give Paul Pogba more leverage going forward. Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier, valued at £50m, will be on the top of the Portuguese’s list.
