Manchester United will speed up their pursuit of Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic in order to secure his services before the Serie A side jets off for China next week, according to Sky Sports.
New Inter boss Luciano Spalletti confirmed last week that the club would hold talks with the 29-year-old after he rejected a new contract at the San Siro.
Perisic recently teased Man United supporters with a cryptic message at an airport, issuing the caption: ‘destination unknown’.
And according to sources at Sky Sports, United are keen on wrapping up the deal sooner rather than later and will increase their bid to £45m.
With Mourinho’s men now preparing for the season ahead, constructing their desired shape and tempo, there isn’t any time to be coy with negotiations. The club has tried to play hardball with Inter, taking advantage of their Financial Fair Play targets, and it hasn’t worked.
Securing good deals is important, of course, but the men in suits at Old Trafford will know that, ultimately, their interests are inextricably linked to giving Mourinho what he needs to take his side to the next level this season, and that may mean launching a bid for Perisic that the hitherto obstinate Italians cannot refuse.
