Ander Herrera claims he wanted Manchester United to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid this summer.
He was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and many believed a deal would be reached as reports claimed he’d complete the move to Old Trafford.
However, both clubs could not agree on a fee, forcing Jose Mourinho to turn his attention to Romelu Lukaku, completing a £75m deal with Everton last week.
Speaking about the collapsed move, Herrera is disappointed it didn’t work out for Morata.
“Of course I wanted to have Morata as a team-mate, he was very close because the two clubs negotiated,” said Herrera.
“Too bad he is not with us but I wish him well.”
Some supporters may be unhappy as many believed the Portuguese boss could potentially be looking to sign two strikers this summer, leaving United with just Lukaku and Marcus Rashford for next season.
Morata would have been an incredible player at Old Trafford and it’s a shame that a move didn’t work out because his arrival would have been a big boost in United’s aim of challenging in the Premier League and Champions League.
