Jose Mourinho confirms three starters against Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Demetri Mitchell, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Matteo Darmian will start for Manchester United against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Throughout the tour, Mourinho has tinkered with his squad to make sure that all players have got as much game time as possible and speaking ahead of the Real Madrid game, he has revealed three players who will start and make the most of this opportunity against the current UEFA Champions League champions.

Speaking ahead of the game, Mourinho said: “And for the players that didn’t play or played last time against City.

“We can’t have better training sessions than playing against the best teams but more important than the results is the work, the minutes I give to every player, we play three matches in three different systems, three at the back, with the last match with the number 10, we are getting our form step by step and tomorrow is obviously, you say a test, is the right word but I prefer to say the experiences, those who didn’t play the last match will play.

“TFM, Axel, Darmian, Mitchell, I’m going to play other players and give rest to some players because pre-season is not for accumulation and some of them played 75 minutes against City.”

I’m really looking forward to seeing Mitchell and Fosu-Mensah play. Both are young prospects with bags of potential and Fosu-Mensah in particular is somebody who I think can settle into the first-team squad this season on a regular basis.

As for Mitchell, his bright performance against Crystal Palace in the final game of the season has given him this opportunity and the reliability of Darmian has earned himself the reputation to play without being questioned any more.

Who else will start? Who knows but we will bring you the official starting XI as soon as it is out as always.
