Jose Mourinho has explained his Manchester United team selection against Real Madrid, claiming it’s a good test against one of the best teams.
The Portuguese boss has been trialling different tactics, formations and combinations of players to determine his best options ahead of the new season.
Speaking prior to the game, Mourinho claimed the match was a great chance to give some players more opportunities.
“I am looking forward to a good test against the best teams. It is a good chance to give to Tim (Fosu-Mensah), to Pereira, to the other young boys later,” he said.
“It is important to test them against the best.
“Of course, we like to win but it is not the most important thing. We play Real again in a couple of weeks and then it is important to win but it is not the most important thing now.
“I feel sorry for Juan Mata not being able to train or play, but to only have one new injury on a long tour is good.”
United still have fixtures against Barcelona, Valerenga and Sampdoria coming up and there’s no doubt Mourinho will want to continue giving his players the chances to impress.
They face West Ham in the opening game of the Premier League season and have time until then to sort out any current issues in the squad.
