Sergio Romero 6 – A largely trouble free first half against a Real Madrid side struggling to create chances.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah 7 – Shutting down a left hand flank comprising of Gareth Bale and Marcelo isn’t easy but the youngster battled brilliantly. Could be an asset under Jose Mourinho next season.
Eric Bailly 7 – Swept aside Karim Benzema in the first half. Impressive when playing out from the back and always in the right position.
Phil Jones 7 – A notably more contained displayed compared to what we saw against Real Salt Lake City. Put his body on the line.
Matteo Darmian 6.5 – Filled in on both sides of defence and moved the ball along sensibly, dealing comfortably with the dangerous Dani Carvajal.
Michael Carrick 6.5 – Occasionally saw Luka Modric skip past him but once again controlled midfield proceedings with his usual poise.
Maroaune Fellaini 6.5 – An very physical display. Bulldozed across the pitch making crucial interceptions whilst occasionally seeing Modric and Toni Kroos skip past him. Fluffed a magnificent chance late on.
Jesse Lingard 6.5 – Buzzed around at a tempo that Madrid struggled to match, always looking to nip in behind. Deserved his goal on the stroke of half time.
Andreas Pereira 6 – Displayed some clever footwork and shifted the ball nicely but could have looked to surge forward more occasions.
Anthony Martial 7 – Initially struggled to impose himself on the game before sublimely skipping into the box, past both Carvajal and Modric, and providing a fantastic assist for Lingard.
Marcus Rashford 6.5 – Didn’t see much of the goal – aside from a swerving drive that Keylor Navas pushed away – but held up the ball nicely and linked up well with Martial.
Romelu Lukaku 6 – Made his physical presence felt but didn’t see much of the ball or any real sight of goal.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan 6.5 – Produced some candid footwork but couldn’t replicate the constant damage produced against Manchester City from the right-hand side.
Daley Blind 7 – Always a lovely player to watch. Moved the ball nicely, linking up well with Martial on the left, and rarely looked troubled on the back foot.
Scott McTominay 6.5 – Appears to be growing in confidence with every first team appearance. Looked comfortable in midfield and will want to bring more attacking initiative to the forefront of his game in the future.
Victor Lindelof 5 – Suffered a moment of madness in the second half as his poorly timed challenge handed Madrid a chance to level from the spot.
David de Gea 8 – Did well to keep out a deceptively dangerous arcing corner but couldn’t do anything about Casemiro’s rocket penalty, made some incredible saves in the penalty shootout later on.
Chris Smalling 6 – Could have positioned himself better in the lead-up to Madrid’s penalty but produced a relatively composed display on the ball.
Paul Pogba 6.5 – Once again classy on the ball, hardly ever conceding possession and whipping the ball around nicely. Could have offered more going forward.
