Valerenga 0-3 Manchester United: Player ratings

Valerenga 0-3 Manchester United: Player ratings

Sergio Romero 6 – Had nothing to do against a substandard Valerenga attack.

Matteo Darmian 6.5 – Linked up well with Juan Mata at times during the early stages and never looked under any pressure defensively.

Eric Bailly 6.5 – Probably his easiest outing in pre-season so far. The Ivorian has been indomitable and he could have negotiated that first half in his sleep.

Phil Jones 6.5 – Another convincing display: moved the ball around nicely and looked comfortable in tight spaces.

Daley Blind 6 – Displayed plenty of initiative but, in similar fashion to Barcelona, lacked execution with his passing and crossing.

Michael Carrick 6.5 – A routine 45 minutes for the Englishman. Comfortably shifted the ball around as Manchester United dominated.

Marouane Fellaini 7.5 – A vintage performance from the man under the spotlight: hustled Valerenga’s midfield all evening and powered home an important opener. His last performance in a Man United shirt?

Paul Pogba 8 – The best player on the pitch once again. No blue shirt could get near him as he dreamily dictated proceedings. Struck the woodwork with a fantastic shot in the first half.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 6.5 – An active, ebullient presence on the right hand side but lacked execution at times. Provided a fantastic inside pass for Marcus Rashford but the move was wrongly flagged for offside.

Juan Mata 7 – A promising return from injury. Linked up well with Darmian and supplied some inch perfect balls through the lines.

Marcus Rashford 6.5 – Didn’t see much of the goal at all but looked dangerous with a few piercing runs. Assured on the ball throughout.

Romelu Lukaku 7 – Came on and within two minutes put the game out of sight, firing home a bullet header from a corner. The exact sort of thing supporters will want to see next season. Fired a powerful shot just wide later on after muscling off two defenders.

Ander Herrera 6.5 – Made a commanding return from injury. Ensured that the home side couldn’t make their mark on the game with some smart interceptions.

Chris Smalling 6 – Looked composed at the base of a back three aside from the occasional lapse in positional sense.

Axel Tuanzebe 6.5 – A disciplined, sturdy presence on the left hand side of defence, linking up nicely with Mitchell. Reads the game so well for a teenager.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah 6.5 – Produced another energetic, forward thinking display on the right hand side. Deserves minutes next season.

Anthony Martial 7 – Pestered the Norwegian side from the moment he came on. Did well in the build-up to United’s third and clearly enjoyed playing alongside Lukaku up front.

Demetri Mitchell 6.5 – An enterprising display on the left hand side, replete with powerful runs and a couple of smart crosses.

Andreas Pereira 7 – Displayed the damage he could inflict from deep, driving forward with tenacity and supplying some inch-perfect passes out wide.

Victor Lindelof 6 – Stuck to the basics, moving the ball around calmly and positioning himself well. Supporters will, however, judge him on games of higher importance. Started to bring the ball into midfield during the latter stages.

Scott McTominay 7 – Did brilliantly to muscle off a defender and calmly guide home United’s third. Another convincing performance in midfield and a clear message to Mourinho ahead of next season.
