Luke Shaw‘s agent, Paul Barnett, has insisted that Manchester United love the defender, going on to claim that he will be the best left back in the world.
The Englishman endured a testing campaign under Jose Mourinho last season, with the manager questioning Shaw’s commitment in training, but will be handed a second chance next season following a series of impressive displays in April.
Mourinho’s reported interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose, however, has placed Shaw’s future at Old Trafford under some scrutiny.
But Barnett, speaking to IBTimes, has made it clear that the club will seek to hand the youngster an important role in the side next season.
“Manchester United love him and Luke Shaw loves Manchester United.”
Perhaps Barnett is being a bit hyperbolic here. This is what I imagine Nicolas Maduro’s spokesperson is forced into saying over and over again.
But he is right in implying that United have no interest in selling him. Mourinho, for all of the solidity offered by Matteo Darmian, needs a left back capable of stretching the pitch in conjunction with Antonio Valencia moving forward, especially if he elects to use a back three, and supporters will just hope that, this time around, they see the real Shaw.
He will not, you sense, receive another chance to demonstrate his worth at this level.
