Phil Jones will be fit to play in England’s World Cup qualifiers – report

Manchester United defender Phil Jones will be fit to play in England’s World Cup qualifiers after being assessed by the Football Association’s medical staff, according to reports.

He was a doubt for the double-header as England face Malta and Slovakia, but wil be ready to go after being checked over since Jose Mourinho claimed he was being troubled by a ankle injury from the opening game of the Premier League season.

The Englishman has endured a tough time with injuries, making only 21 international appearances since his move to Old Trafford from Ewood Park in 2011.

Jones also picked up an injury whilst on international duty in March forcing him to miss the final stages of last season, as Mourinho guided the side to the Europa League trophy.

He’s been in sensational form since the start of the new season and has proven he has what it takes to partner Eric Bailly in the centre of defence, not conceding a single goal in three.

Even though his place in the side was uncertain with Victor Lindelof making the switch from Benfica, he’s worked hard for his place in the side and it seems Jose Mourinho has been left impressed with his efforts to keep his role in the team.
