Andreas Pereira was handed a chance to start for Valencia against Atletico Madrid on Saturday and didn’t fail to disappoint with an enterprising performance.
The Brazilian, who enjoyed a superb spell in La Liga with Granada last season, joined up with the Spanish side on a season long loan with no option to buy earlier this month.
And he was deployed as an inverted left winger by manager Marcelino as Valencia preserved their unbeaten start to the season with a 0-0 draw with Diego Simeone’s men.
Here is a highlight reel of the 21-year-old’s debut at the Mestalla.
The one thing that always hallmark’s Pereira’s approach, more than anything, is sheer confidence. Regardless of circumstance he wants the ball at his feet. Creative zeal and a will to burst forward courses through his veins.
Another encouraging aspect to his game – something honed at Granada – is his adaptability. He featured as a No.10, winger and central midfielder last season and he was given license to roam the pitch against Atletico, creating space with his close control and producing a few sublime pieces of skill.
This was an assured, purposeful debut. The final product wasn’t quite there, but that will come with more minutes on the pitch.
