Manchester United’s Chris Smalling was in awe of his teammate Romelu Lukaku after the Red Devils swept aside CSKA Moscow 4-1 in the Champions League.
The English international was keen to point out his colleague’s qualities, focusing on Lukaku’s ability to bring others into play as the Belgian continues to impress while leading the line.
Romelu grabbed himself a brace in a surprisingly easy win against the Russian side, profiting from a promising relationship with fellow striker and former Monaco man Anthony Martial.
Smalling must have squared up against Lukaku several times in training by now and must know just how tough it is to play against a man who scored 25 Premier League goals for Everton last season.
“He’s just a beast,” Smalling told BT Sport.
“You can play it into him and he can hold it up, people can run off him, and he’s just a nightmare to play against.”
The strong striker is clearly appreciated by his peers but, most importantly, has surprised his manager with his impressive start to his career in a Manchester United shirt.
While many expected the relatively young striker to make the leap from Everton with ease, no one could have possibly predicted that he would have such an impact already.
While the Red Devils and Romelu are yet to be truly tested against top opposition, one could imagine that if he continues his fine form, his club will have no issues dispatching the Premier League’s best.
Whether it happens or not however, Manchester United fans should be like Chris Smalling– in awe of the left-footed striker’s pure ability to find the net consistently.
