Jose Mourinho has received a massive boost ahead of Manchester United’s visit to Anfield after it was revealed that Phil Jones would recover in time for the clash with Jurgen Klopp’s side, according to reports.
The 24-year-old missed the 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow last month with an ankle problem but recovered in time to feature against Crystal Palace.
Jones then joined up with the England squad for international duty but was soon sent back to Carrington following a recurrence of his ankle problem, prompting fears he would not be able to take part against Liverpool.
But according to M.E.N‘s Anthony Jepson, the 25-year-old will be fit to start alongside Eric Bailly for Saturday’s decisive clash.
Man United’s injury problems are far from resolved, however: Paul Pogba continues to sit out with a hamstring injury, Marouane Fellaini will be out for a minimum of two weeks with a knee injury, while Romelu Lukaku and Michael Carrick are both doubts to start the game.
That said, Jones’ inclusion at Anfield could be salutary. He has picked up no fewer than six clean sheets in the Premier League so far this season and five alongside Eric Bailly. A truly imperious record.
Supporters will just hope to see the pair working closely in conjunction as Mourinho’s men look to frustrate Klopp’s side on Saturday.
