Jose Mourinho travelled to Vienna last week to monitor Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Mijat Gacinovic during Serbia’s 3-2 defeat to Austria ahead of a potential bid, according to reports.
The 22-year-old rose to prominence at Serbian side Vojvodina during his teenage years and earned a move to the Bundesliga back in 2o15.
He has since made 50 appearances for Eintracht and made his debut of the the Serbia national side this year following a string of enterprising attacking displays from the flank.
And according to the Mirror‘s David Maddock, Mourinho personally travelled to Vienna to watch Gacinovic in action as Austria claimed a late winner over the visitors.
We should take note of the fact that the 54-year-old took the time to actually watch this youngster in the flesh. There is clearly something about his game that has rendered him a potential target for next summer – but what?
Perhaps Gacinovic’s aptitude for the big occasion has stirred Mourinho more than anything. He has claimed two goals in his first three internationals, including one on his debut, and looks unfazed in the Bundesliga, forming an integral aspect of Eintracht’s attacking midfield.
And with Bayern Munich also expressing an interest in the 22-year-old, Mourinho may feel as if he needs to move fast to secure his signature.
