Andreas Pereira has been pictured putting in the hard yards for Valencia ahead of their trip to Real Betis this weekend.

The Brazilian, following a superb loan spell with Granada last season, went against Jose Mourinho’s wishes by joining up with Los Che for another campaign in La Liga on deadline day last month.

And he has enjoyed a promising first few weeks, providing an assist on his second start before receiving a standing ovation from the Mestalla following an enterprising display against Athletic Bilbao.

The 21-year-old has been pictured working hard in training as he prepares for what could be his fourth start for Valencia this season.

With Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all injured ahead of a week comprising of trips to Liverpool, Benfica and Huddersfield, you start to wonder whether Man United will start to rue Pereira’s decision to move elsewhere for the 2017/18 season.

Of course, you can’t argue Pereira’s decision to seek more game time elsewhere. And he will receive more minutes at the Mestalla than at Old Trafford over the next few months. But how crucial would a tenacious midfield cameo against, say, Benfica next week be for not just United, but indeed his place in the current hierarchy at United?

Perhaps strong – but albeit sporadic – performances under Mourinho would outweigh the value of another good season in La Liga. As injuries start to mount, it is certainly starting to look that way.
