Nemanja Matic featured for the Red Devils as they squared off to Benfica in the Champions League away from home.
Manchester United travelled to Portugal in the hopes of adding to their points total and Matic was as central to that as ever.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford the Serbian midfielder has shown his class and has added experience to United’s engine room.
He’s mainly kept out last season’s Manchester United player of the year, Ander Herrera, but since Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini are out injured, the two have played alongside each other.
However, it was Nemanja who stood out from the pair, showing he’s capable of more than just tackling and intercepting as he took Benfica’s players on. United fans appreciated the quality they could see.
Matic running through Benfica's defence like he's had enough of everyone else being rubbish and decided to do it himself.

Matić has been our player of the season so far for me. Always feels like he’s playing on his own.

Only Nemanja Matić is having a good performance for Manchester United. Breaking up play efficiently and at least trying to move forward.

Nemanja Matic is a tremendous player, how in the world did #Chelsea ever think it was wise to let him go?

Matic and Herrera midfield don’t work, and never will. Both have similar strengths and attack very little. Paul Pogba needed asap!

It’s been a little tough for Matic and Herrera as the two players have hardly had a rest as Jose Mourinho deals with an injury crisis.
The Portuguese manager will surely rue Andreas Pereira‘s decision to go out on loan to Valencia as the club could certainly use his quality.
Pereira was heavily involved in United’s pre-season friendlies and was set to become involved with the first team in a telling season for the youngster.
However, Andreas opted for a loan move to secure more first team football rather than stay at Old Trafford in the hopes of featuring in the odd game here and there.
The dazzling midfielder couldn’t have predicted his teammates would suffer huge losses and Mourinho may just choose to recall him in January.
Until then, the Red Devils will have to rely on Nemanja Matic’s excellence as he continues his fine form for his new team.
