Martin Keown: Jose Mourinho got what he deserved vs Huddersfield

Manchester United were defeated for the first time this season by the Premier League newcomers and Martin Keown feels that the Red Devils got what they deserved.

Pushing blame particularly on Jose Mourinho, the BT Sport pundit has claimed the Portuguese manager has taken away freedom from his players.

The Red Devils went into the match against Huddersfield on the back of a dull draw against Liverpool and an uninspiring win against Benfica.

The goals have dried up for Mourinho’s men who were scoring for fun in the beginning stages of the season.

Jose himself blamed the players attitude for the loss but Keown has shifted the blame unto the manager himself.

According to the Daily Star he said: “Mourinho, I can’t help thinking leaving Rashford on the bench and Mkhitaryan, he’s got really what he deserves.

“He’s taken away some of the freedom from this team, put the handbrake on them. It’s not a tap you can turn on and off and they couldn’t respond today with enough to beat a Huddersfield team.

“That is a little bit of an embarrassment for Manchester United.”

United headed into the international break in fine form with Mourinho rueing the timing of it all as he hoped his players could keep up the momentum.

After their excursions for their international teams though, it appeared the United team weren’t capable of picking up where they left off.

A drab draw against their fierce rivals was hailed by some fans as good match management from Mourinho and his team.

The 1-0 defeat of Benfica was also put to a team suffering from injuries and a good way of reserving energy for more important matches.

Huddersfield however, proved that there is in fact a recent dip of form for the Red Devils and Jose will want to stop the rot as soon as possible.

United face Tottenham and Chelsea in their next two Premier League fixtures and will certainly need wins against both teams to prove they are title challengers whilst closing the gap on Manchester City.
